Ancient Turkey-Cappadocia.
Aired on Wednesday, February 21 at 1:00am ET

The Turkish region of Cappadocia is one of the strangest, most mysterious places on earth. Our exploration of this area first centers around the geographical phenomenon that has created hundreds of bizarre rock formations, many of which have been carved out into homes and churches that were once used by ancient inhabitants of that land. We'll learn about the Hittites and discover why, until recently, this ancient nation was thought to have never existed. We'll tour the bustling marketplaces of Cappadocia and visit the eerie hollowed out churches whose walls tell the story of religious upheaval in this region. Next, we go underground into the vast subterranean dwellings once used by the Hittites but were later expanded by the Christians in order to avoid persecution. Our final destination is a mysterious church that lies eight stories underground. Dave Stotts hosts.  TVPG
